# Visitor rules and protective isolation

Source: POL-CW-03 v1.8 (3 Jun 2023) · Owner: IPC · Ages **0–18** · **Review overdue** (due Jun 2025)

Teaching copy. Not KHCC policy. Not for real patients.

## The rules as written

- Visiting hours 10:00–20:00. Overnight only with the nurse in charge, single room.
- Neutropenic child (ANC < 500): **well adult visitors, no cap on numbers**. No visitors under 12.
- Surgical mask for every oncology visitor. N95 not required.
- Protective isolation: single room preferred, positive pressure preferred, no plants, spill kit and isolation gowns in **dirty utility cupboard B**.
- Influenza visitors: stay away until **3 days after the fever starts**.
- Measles exclusion 21 days if not immune. Varicella until crusted.

## Linked notes

- febrile-neutropenia — FN allows **two named caregivers only**, not unlimited well adults.
- chemo-safety — spill kit is in **Room 12 clean utility**, and isolation gowns must not share a cupboard with it.
- central-line — duplicated five-moments hand-hygiene paragraph, almost word for word.

## Open questions

- Review is overdue by more than a year.
- “3 days after the fever starts” for influenza is shorter than the usual “until 24 hours afebrile” / 5–7 day staff-exclusion rules. Flag as a possible error.
- Overnight stay is banned here and assumed in family discharge planning.
